Reactivity and Behavioural Consultation

Our consultation uses the latest scientifically proven methods to systematically assess why your dog might be struggling with certain behaviours. By understanding the root causes, we create a tailor-made plan to address these challenges and ensure steady progress. While multiple sessions may be necessary for optimal results, we provide ongoing online support so you can ask questions and get guidance at any stage. This approach guarantees that both you and your dog will have the tools to succeed in creating lasting change.

One of the key techniques we employ is counter-conditioning, which involves changing your dog's emotional response to a trigger. By pairing the trigger with something positive, such as treats or praise, we help your dog develop a more positive association with the previously distressing stimulus. This method is highly effective in reducing reactivity and promoting calmer behaviour.

Building your dog's confidence is another crucial aspect of our training. Confident dogs are less likely to exhibit reactive behaviours and are better equipped to handle various situations. Through structured exercises and positive reinforcement, we help your dog gain confidence.

🐾Frequently asked questions🐾

  • All of our lessons are held at our secure training paddock only 3 miles outside of Elgin.

We have ample parking and toilets on site.

Full address can be provided upon enquiry.

  • Although the issue may be happening in the home I prefer to help people outside of where the behaviour is being practiced.

Simply having a new person in your home changes the environment enough to alter the behaviour and depends on being lucky enough that people are passing the window during the visit.

Full online and phone support is included in your lessons.

  • You only need to bring what you usually take on a walk (including high-value treats e.g. cooked chicken, liver treats, etc) and I will supply the rest.

As we are positive only, we do not recommend the use of slip leads in class, so please make sure your dog has a neck collar/harness and a lead.

Please do remember to dress appropriately as the Scottish weather can be erratic and it is an open space.

  • For 1-1 lessons you are welcome to bring multiple dogs from the same household although we do recommend bringing just one and applying the same techniques at home to all.

Some clients prefer to have the first three lessons with the dog they find most challenging and bringing the rest along for the final lesson.

  • Each lesson is scheduled for an hour with 45-50 minutes making up the lesson with the remaining time for Q&A.

  • All the members of your household are welcome to participate in both 1-1 and group lessons!

Children are to supervised at all times (or to remain on a lead for the duration of the lesson!)
